Singaporean Foreign Minister Shanmugam meets Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law of Singapore, Hon. K. Shanmugam, who is on a two day visit to Sri Lanka from 23 to 24 February 2015, met with Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera today at the Ministry.

President begins State visit to India

President Maithripala Sirisena left this afternoon on a three-day visit to India on an invitation extended by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During his stay in India, President Sirisena is expected meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Modi. The President is also scheduled to meet several political leaders and other dignitaries.

Foreign Minister Samaraweera concludes successful visit to the US capital

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera visited Washington DC from 11-12 February. The visit which was his first to the US capital since assuming office as the Minister of Foreign Affairs followed the visit of US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal to Colombo on 2-3 February and coincided with the completion of 30 days in office of the new Government in Sri Lanka.

Special Envoy of Chinese Government visits Sri Lanka

The Special Envoy of the Government of China, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Liu Jianchao undertook an official visit to Sri Lanka from 5 to 7 February 2015.  During the visit, the Chinese Special Envoy paid calls on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The visiting dignitary held bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also met Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake. The discussions focused on issues of mutual interest covering bilateral political, economic, development cooperation and people-to-people contacts.

67th Independence Day Celebrations in High Commission in Sri Lanka Kuala Lumpur

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Malaysia celebrated the anniversary of 67th Independence Day in a grand scale at the Chancery premises on the 4th of February 2015. The National Day events commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by the High Commissioner Ibrahim Ansar, followed by the singing national anthem, Jaya Mangala Gatha and lighting of traditional oil lamp. Two minutes silence was observed in honour of the members of the armed forces and police who sacrificed their lives for the independence of Sri Lanka and to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our motherland.
